Prayer, a privilege of great value, that challenges us to ask our loving God for even more.
Prayer, a privilege of great value, that challenges us to ask our loving God for even more.

Jim Cymbala, “When I stand before the judgment seat of Christ, he is not going to ask me if I was a clever orator.  He is not going to ask me how many books I wrote.  He is only going to ask me whether I continued in the line of men and women, starting way back in the time of Adam’s grandchildren (Gen. 4:26), who led others to call on the name of the Lord.”  Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire p. 59.

Here is the entire verse of Genesis 4:26:

When Seth grew up, he had a son and named him Enosh. At that time people first began to worship the LORD by name (New Living Translation). Seth also had a son, and he named him Enosh. At that time people began to call on the name of the LORD (New International Version).

Is there a burden you carry today? Have you committed it to the Lord? God is always willing to hear, but do we believe that? God delights when we ask him to intervene in our struggles. He even delights when we honor him by asking for his help with a burden or a lack we long to see filled. To go a bit deeper listen to John Piper's explanation of Proverbs 15:8:

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

"My hope is that the effect of this message will not only be that you feel encouraged to pray, but mainly that the nature of God as a fountain of free grace will be reaffirmed—that God is the kind of God who delights most deeply not in making demands but in meeting needs. Prayer is his delight because prayer shows the reaches of our poverty and the riches of his grace. Prayer is that wonderful transaction where the wealth of God's glory is magnified and the wants of our soul are satisfied. Therefore God delights in the prayers of the upright."

John Piper has some wonderful messages on his website, Desiring God. Don't ever forget that one of the reasons Jesus came was to restore to us what the sin of Adam and Eve took from the human race...intimacy with God.

This Sunday the 26th

I hope you can join us at 10:30 AM. My message is titled, "Not Ashamed, Not to Blame, No Quarreling Game." It will explore the power of our words to build up or to tear down and the power of God's Word for good. We will be pulling from 2 Timothy 2 and continuing our "Discipleship Alignment" series. We have two options for Sunday School beginning at 9:30 AM... in the first we are exploring the Old Testament history and the other on Daniel. Arrive a little early and get a good cup of coffee and a donut at 9:15 AM.

A song you will hear in our worship:

Staying faithful to keep reaching out to ingest the word of God is critical for us in 2026 and beyond. There will be reading plans available again this Sunday. Today's readings were Genesis 24, Nehemiah 13, Matthew 23 and Acts 23. If you are looking for a different reading plan you might enjoy trying:

Why might a sacrifice given to God be rejected if it came from a wicked person?

Blessings to you all,
