Greetings to you all,
Hope this finds you well. There is a lot to look forward to in the coming days around the celebration of our Lord's resurrection. Our Daffodils are looking great this year! My joy in seeing them seems to add to my anticipation for the Easter. I remember as a kid going every year to a sunrise service in the cemetery adjacent to the little Methodist church we attended. We always sang "He Arose." Even as a young kid I could imagine bodies being resurrected and Christ walking out of His tomb. The lines in that old hymn resonate powerfully with me today:
"Up from the grave He arose, with a mighty triumph ore His foes.
He arose a victor from the dark domain and He lives forever with His saints to reign."
He arose, He arose. Hallelujah, Christ arose!
I Corinthians 15 is the most extensive passage in the NT on the resurrection, Let these powerful words encourage you as you prepare your heart to celebrate this season.
The Resurrection of Christ
1Now, brothers and sisters, I want to remind you of the gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. 2By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain.
3For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, 5and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. 6After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born...
54When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory...
55“Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?” i
56The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ...
This is what Jesus came to do...rescue us! A simple google search for the meaning of Jesus' name brought this up:
In the Bible, the name "Jesus" (Greek: Iēsous) translates from Hebrew "Yehoshua" (or "Yeshua") and means "God is salvation" or "Yahweh is salvation". The angel Gabriel, in Matthew 1:21, instructs Joseph to name Jesus's son "Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins,". This name is not only a human name but also signifies his mission and identity as the Savior.
In the Bible, "Christ" is a title, not a name, derived from the Greek word "Christos," meaning "anointed one," which translates the Hebrew "Messiah," signifying a chosen one, especially in a messianic or royal sense.
The word Christ simply means "anointed one."
