CALVARY UPDATES 08/28/2026
I love the I Corinthians 13 passage speaking about our future, "For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known."
We are to put aside many childish ways as we grow into adulthood. For a believer, who wants to go onto maturity in Christ, we embrace a wonderful calling to know Jesus more completely and to make him known. Hosea 6:2,3 says: 2After two days will he revive us; on the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live before his face; 3and we shall know, -- we shall follow on to know Jehovah: his going forth is assured as the morning dawn; and he will come unto us as the rain, as the latter rain which watereth the earth" (DBT). Maturity comes as the Holy Spirit waters and feeds our soul like a spring rain.
God doesn't save us just to take us to glory. No, eternal life begins it's impact from the moment we trust him. When we are spiritually healthy, we follow God's leading and grow to know the Lord in a deeper way.
If the Spirit of God lives in us, and as believers he does, his work is to bring the light of God's truth to bear on our lives. His work is to shape us into the image of Jesus (see Romans 8:29). The Spirit always seeks to bring greater glory to Christ. When we yield to him, Jesus matures us and his transforming power is readily visible.
Our message this Sunday comes from I John 3 and is entitled "Love Lavished People Focus on What's to Come." God has lavished his love on us by calling us to abide in him and be changed into a better reflection of Jesus. "Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is" (I John 3:2). Focusing on the future means trusting God to keep transforming us. This transformation will only be completed when we stand "face to face" with Jesus. Our job description asks us to yield to the Spirit's purifying work and to look for him to change us.
