I have enjoyed for the last few months walking with our congregation through the book of 2 Timothy. We are almost finished. I have loved the depth of Paul's honesty. He shared deep revelations about the battle he faced to keep proclaiming the gospel in a culture that was hostile and opposed to his message. He fought a valiant fight that took him to vast portions of the first century Roman world.
He had to keep the faith. A faith that was tried and tested often. In 2 Corinthians 11 he goes into great detail to describe the bodily harm that was inflicted on him (eight beatings and left for dead via a stoning), three shipwrecks, hunger and thirst and there's even more!
Here is a man who was asked daily to count the cost to live out his faith and he never gave up. In 2 Timothy 4, he recounts two occasions when he was deserted, and one of those desertions really hurt him because it was a dear friend that abandoned him. BUT, the Lord never abandoned him according to verse 17, But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the message would be fully proclaimed..."
Is God stretching now in some areas where you would prefer not to be stretched? You may not feel it today, but the Lord has not forgotten your hardship. When you feel weak, and you will, call out for him to do a work that sustains and supports you. He will strengthen you again and again because he wants to see you strong and able to be a faithful witness. Why? The second phrase in verse 17 says it all....so that through me the message would be fully proclaimed..."
Sunday,  May 31st   Sunday School at 9:15 and Worship at 10:30 AM.
I look forward to seeing you this week.  We get to celebrate God's goodness. My message Sunday focuses on 2 Timothy 4:16 & 17: At my first defense, no one stood with me, but everyone deserted me. May it not be charged against them. 17But the Lord stood by me and strengthened me, so that through me the message would be fully proclaimed, and all the Gentiles would hear it. So I was delivered from the mouth of the lion. We continue our Discipleship Alignment series. The message is titled, "Passing the Test One Battle at a Time"   Our Sunday School provides two options exploring I Samuel or the book of Daniel. Donuts and coffee at 9:15 AM.
