Calvary updates 1/30

My grandpa had a couple of sheds and one of them I was told not to ever enter. That instruction sure made me curious!
My grandpa had a couple of sheds and one of them I was told not to ever enter. That instruction sure made me curious!

I am not a 100% sure on this, but I believe the reason I was asked to stay out is that he stored some of his sharpest knives there. He used them to butcher his livestock. This particular shed also doubled as a smoke house for the hogs that he would cure. The first time I saw that hog hanging from the rafters in this small space, I could not believe how big it was. When smoke was filling the room and escaping through the chimney you never wanted to be in there. But when the process was complete, you wanted to sneak in and see what made it so "dangerous." As a kid I had all kinds of questions.

My message this Sunday will consider God's call to us to pursue God's righteousness and steer clear of misdirected youthful passions. I Timothy 2:22: Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. I don't know about you, but my youthful curiosity got me into quite a bit of mischief. A mature and beneficial call rests on our lives to silence certain passions and pursue God's righteous pattern. There is so much more here to explore. I look forward to learning more right along with you Sunday.

This Sunday the 1st

I hope you can join us at 10:30 AM. My message is titled, "Righteousness, always the right pursuit." We will be pulling from 2 Timothy 2 and continuing our "Discipleship Alignment" series. For Sunday School you have two options beginning at 9:30 AM...in the first we are exploring the Old Testament history and the other on Daniel. Arrive a little early and get a good cup of coffee and a donut at 9:15 AM.

A song you will hear in our worship:

"Soul on Fire" by Third Day

Prayer Wednesday 2/4 5:30 PM

Remember the words of Jesus, "Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds from the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4)."  Today's readings were Genesis 31, Esther 7, Mark 2 and Romans 2. If you are looking for a different reading plan you might enjoy trying:

Food for thought, in general when do people normally flee from something or someplace?

Blessings to you all,
