Community Picnic
Rotary Park 1115 State Street Pekin
Saturday, August 9th 4-6:30 PM
Our youth, known as Calvary Kids, had fun passing out about 30 flyers to invite people to the picnic last night. People LOVE to see youth involved. So proud of our volunteers who faithfully serve our youth week in and week out. We found people for the vast majority of the time to be very appreciative of an invitation.
I love this type of outreach. We got to pray with a neighbor whose daughter is facing stage four pancreatic cancer. By just interacting with the people we raise awareness that our church is "present and accounted for" as the saying goes.
One of the important principles for building friendships is staying connected. I referred to Hebrews 10:24 & 25 in last week's blog, which challenges us to "not forsake assembling together." I am reminded of the practices of the early church that cemented them together. Acts 2:46: With one accord they continued to meet daily in the temple courts and to break bread from house to house, sharing their meals with gladness and sincerity of heart. We are gearing up to provide options for our body to develop deeper connections through a small group. These groups would provide a way for us to deepen our friendships within the church and provide additional avenues for deepening our faith. The Bible studies we will use we believe will help us grow together and strengthen us.
