Don't you just love the multiple steps some online accounts have go through to verify your identification? Sometimes you get stuck inbetween steps, like you're on your laptop and they've sent a code to your phone. But there's just one little problem, you guessed it, you can't find your phone! By the time you do find it, the code has timed out and you have to start the process all over again!

The caption above is the title I am giving to our next sermon series coming from I John. In his letter, the apostle, is giving clear verification codes to discern the answer to some huge faith questions. How do we know Jesus was the real deal Messiah, and how do we know if we are dealing with a real deal, not missing the mark, Christian? If we are asking the right questions, our discoveries will lead us to truth that breeds confidence and action. John lays out the crucial questions to help us know we are no fool to put our confidence in Jesus.

Intertwined in all of this is central question his readers will be asked to wrestle with, is it possibe to know truth when you see it? John will ask us, "Have you been able to verify true faith characteristics through the standards I've laid out?" The word truth or true is used 27 times in 1st, 2nd and 3rd John. So truth, knowable or not knowable, will be before us often.

It is my prayer that you will come the next few weeks ready to embark on a quest to unlock the verification code for gospel truth. I am asking that God will use the His Word again to strengthen and galvanize our faith.

Another week to honor our good God. This week I can't wait to unlock some of the gems the venerable apostle shares with is in I John as we start the series, "Verification Code Please?" Our Sunday School provides two options exploring the life of Saul in I Samuel or the book of Daniel looking at the Anti- Christ. Donuts and coffee at 9:15 AM.
